the first time i tried street photography i was trying out the cliches and i took a picture of a homeless guy who instantly got aggressive and started yelling at me how it's illegal to take pictures of people without their permission but i told him that wasn't true but that i would delete the pic and then he started getting madder and "whispering" to his friend that he was going to drop kick me and then trying to get me to come over to him because at that point i was super uncomfortable and just trying to leave. i ended up just walking to the other side of town and shooting there.
I'm glad i didnt let that stop me though because that was the one and only time someone ever reacted negatively. people generally don't tend to care too much if you don't act creepy. just take a pic and smile and thank them and they'll be fine for the most part. i've been considering getting a ricoh gr to be more sneaky because the one i use now is a big white dslr with the loudest shutter i've ever heard, but i also do think because of that it looks more "professional" in a way so people, especially people who are dressed stylishly, tend to take it more of a compliment when you stop to shoot them. don't know if i'll come off more as a creeper with a smaller more discreet cam.
