It's just Nikon saying that their new mount is better than their old mount, short flange is a benefit for ultrawide lens design, no one has ever claimed anything different.
The lens in question is pretty much identical in size and weight to the sony 16-35 f4. The Sony also has better resolution and less vignette, and even has smaller front filters, something Nikon were gushing over about their "achievement".
