Therefore, if we hold the same sensor technology, we could work out a resolution in megapixels that a M4/3 would need to have to generate the same amount of noise as a full frame sensor.
Full Frame: 36 x 24 mm = 864 mm^2
Micro Four Thirds: 17.3 x 13 mm = 224.9 mm^2
That is 384% more surface area on the sensor.
24 Megapixel on FF = 6.25 MP Micro Four Thirds
Thus, if Olympus or Panasonic used the same sensor as a Sony a7iii, they would need a 6.25MP pixel resolution.
