I know working on crappy exploitative jobs in a radically unequal country can feel like shit but your persistence and the coding gig will eventually help to get you back on your feet. Do you have any ideas for simple short or experimental films you'd like to direct until then? It might help to temporarily scratch that itch for making stuff with video most.
And don't be ashamed of having a Sociology degree, it's not my area but, as an academic discipline, it's gone bounds and leaps in the past decade. It's still a recent field and it will eventually find its ground soon enough.
