The first photographers were specialised technicians that did their darndest to make money out of it full time. I think if one of them came back to life now they'd say no way could you be a professional.
I see photography another way, not to devote your life to it, but be a part of the things you do as a neet, including music, reading and fucking around. To not have time to relax and go out for a photoshoot would be hard but it's probably doable if you get up early.
