Woodlands seem to work in Autumn and Winter, then summer gives you really nice canopy sun and Spring gives you plenty of macro opportunity. I've been trying to predict mist for a few shots for a while now but it's mostly chance so woodlands always benefit from just going back every now and then
It's funny because I was exactly like OP until recently- I hated shooting woodlands (I still hate landscape photography because it's incredibly boring to me) because it's bland and samey and everything in my area felt so bloody boring but like so many genres of photography I'm starting to learn it's just about getting better
