Here's my eggsperience with the 50 1.4s as I own a load of Nikon 50s and can make direct comparison: the old AF one is blazing fast on my D800 while the AFs is optically better at f/1.4 but slower, they're optically basically equal from f/1.8-2 on, so the choice is yours on what you want to carry and for what.
Also, in my experience people who are so fast to judge the AF/AF-D series basically are poorfags who hoped to find a gem on an old f/3.5-5.6 kit zoom and fiddled only with that kind of crap.
There are great lenses in that lineup like the 180 2.8 (sharp wide open, fast, compact and lightweight) or the portrait f/2 primes and crap like the 28 2.8, which is even worse than the great Ai.
