>>3869941It's not interesting because the cars were vintage or whatever, it's interesting because it shows the lifestyle that now is normal back near its inception. The asphalt jungle and the daily commute back in much earlier times, when the population in LA was roughly half of what it is today. The jarring routine was already there. The endless sea of cars was there. It doesn't feel any less crowded than it is today, even though it objectively was. That picture is interesting in the same way the supermarket picture by Gursky is interesting. But it's also a portrait of America. It actually has a lot more subtext than Winogrand's.
Take this one by Bruce Davidson, same era. A lot more to say too. It's iconic instead of forgettable.
