I mean, yeah, maybe it's not as hard to learn exposure as it is to learn to paint a portrait, but for the same reason, a photo of the same scene wouldn't be critiqued in the same way.
Just like an expensive paint brush won't make you a pro painter, a 1D doesn't make you a great photographer.
