>One stop more light can make a difference when shooting moving subjects or low light scenesThey're practically the same size and weight, have about the same close focusing ability, and both are optically pretty much equivalent to their canon and nikon counterparts. I rented a Nikon 24-70 f2.8 VR once to shoot a wedding and I loved the speed of that lens but it was so big and heavy for what it is and at least at a wedding the VR isn't as useful as you think until you get to the dancing shots because it doesn't help at all with subject motion during shots where you want people to appear frozen. The Tamron 24-70 is immensely cheaper and noticeably smaller and lighter.
