I.e., when people are going for wide these days, they're going for *extreme* wide. Ultrawide lenses used to be a lot more rare and expensive, so 28mm was about as wide as most systems went (to the extent that Leica bodies didn't even have 28mm framelines at first, and they still don't have anything wider than that). And now that cellphones usually ship with lenses in the ~28mm-equivalent range, that sort of focal length is becoming associated more with cheap photography than aspirational photography.
I know that Samyang makes a 24mm f/2.8 for E mount (and, in fact, I have one right in front of my face right now). 24mm isn't *that* much different from 28mm in practice. Maybe try that?
