It's a far less true statement than many dozens of photographers whose work is actually good and iconic outside of the context of being the mascot of a brand or the author of a well known book.
Nobody on /p/ would put down this shot of Fan Ho's because it's actually incredible good. Some of his lesser work would get put down. It's almost like there are ways to judge an image beyond how famous the person that took it is.
