>>4008479I was "friends" with a dude on IG who shot an M10 Monochrom. (We actually typed at each other quite a lot, so not just some unknown "friend." I've since deleted IG.) The Monochroms are a pretty nice little machines, granted, but he would fly somewhere for a boring vacation, take pictures of little bits of architecture, and then try to sell the gelatin prints for $700. When he realized there wasn't any money in selling picrel, he said "maybe photography isn't for me."
I don't know how generalizable this phenomenon is, but I think it speaks to the fact that Leica shooters see their cameras and their photos primarily as (transcendent) commodities/investments.
I've still never seen a single organic shot from a Noctilux (though I have seen a lot of photos of the lens itself); presumably there are enough of them in the wild that such photos would exist, but I haven't seen them. They are probably all being turned into NFTs right now?
I like my R5 a lot, but less than I should, because it's a Leica. Leica is a weird world filled with sad moneyball people, and my disposition towards the brand is mostly one of head-shaking sighs.
tl;dr: Leica and Leica shooters are actually just kinda sad.
