I understand you can tape the pins of a Canon extender and fool the camera into letting you AF beyond its firmware limit.
I own a Canon 400mm f/5.6 and I want to use it with a 2x TC.
From what I've read, this is usually a bad idea as you'll normally be left only with MF, but I own a 1D series body meaning the converted 800mm f/11 is one stop beyond the AF rated capabilities instead of two like with most bodies.
Has anyone tried this; what were the results?
I plan on using this combination in good sunlight.
