>>3225193It's a triffic mic for certain things. If you get an original with the piezo crystal cartridge it's beautifully low-fi with great crisp pickup in the voice range (and a bit beyond). classic sound for radio ham voice, lo-fi vocal recordings and harmonica.
sadly it's become all but impossible to get original design crystal elements to refurbish them, but they do sell dynamic elements that are designed to fit right into the original circuit and they have a similar sound, just not quite the same.
HOWEVER - Astatic makes a CD radio version still to this day called the D104M6B, which is exactly the same mic but in a handset format and it uses the original crystal element design. I have one and it's lovely! Takes a 9v battery just like the big lolipop D104 stand does. I just fanged a 1/4" plug on it and voilá
