Using wider lenses, like 35mm or 28mm - requires you much more to A) Get closer to your subject B) Deal with context/background in your images.
With a 50mm - typically, it's much easier to control the background and you shoot at a "comfortable" distance.
By forcing you to think about the context of the subject and/or get in closer - there's a certain level of discomfort that comes with a wider prime. They are harder to shoot IMO
To me, 35mm and 85mm are very difficult because they are too close to 50mm. By the time you get to 24mm or 135mm, you're far enough away that your whole approach is different. But with 35mm and 85mm, you kind of aren't quite wide and not quite tele, and it's almost uncomfortable.
