tl;dr: what are your rates?
Hey /vid/, (25 y/o) freelance videographer here.
I feel discouraged to do freelance work when the pricing is brought up during the conversation with a (small business) client. I get a lot of these;
>you're still young and learning, do it for the experience, it's great for your portfolio
>I will give you a shoutout to help you broaden your network
>your equipment isn't even that expensive for the price you're asking
>you're still a student, you're not a professional
After four years of education in video and multimedia design, I consider myself a professional. My portfolio is okay for those four years doing mostly work for free. I barely get around with waiting tables and I invested a couple grand in basic equipment.
>Canon 6D
>L series, 24-105mm F2.8, 50mm, ND & UV filter
>full sized tripod & glidecam
>Zoom recorder H5 & Rode minishotgun
>sd cards, batteries, bags, laptop, software & plugins (bought), etc.
I don't know what my work is worth or what my day rates should be. Could anyone help me out figuring out how I should tackle my rates? Or could you give some insight in what your rates are?
