Since 50mm multiplied by 1.6 is 80, your resulting image will be ***more or less*** equivalent to that taken with an 80mm lens on a full frame body; but not exactly the same because 80mm and 50mm produce different images (e.g. different depth-of-field).
This is why it can be confusing to say "equivalent to 80mm" because it is not really equivalent.
