the profiles are nice, trying to tailor every exposure to retaining highlight information when the camera is very stubborn about metering is less nice. obviously people get good results out of it, but i'm much happier to just keep playing with the wider latitude raw files to get the most out of my files.
i looked up that zine in the OP and the guy's talking about how he wanted to recapture the experience of dropping off rolls from his film camera at labs for dev and scanning since he never did that stuff himself. to each their own, but that's not an approach i'm down with.
pic related is one of the few recent ones i've liked while i was trying out a new sim, but even then i like the end result of editing the raw much better.
