semi-decently exposed pictures taken on a shitty camera and dropped off at the one-hour fotomat in the mall parking lot.
the oversaturated colors and either shadow-crushing contrast or barely any contrast were something people who knew about photography thought of as BAD back then. they would go to more expensive places.
people who didn't know about photography didn't care, because look there's fido isn't he cute he's jumping in the pool.
and forget worrying skin tones. that's joe's skin, it's got a tone, that's skin tone. nobody cared if it was too yellow or pink or magenta. your brain adjusted.
