I used darktable, hugin, and ffmpeg to put this together last year, and ended up with a much better version that I can't find right now using some maximum area stuff that really blew my dick off.
Regardless of all of this, go out and shoot the fucking eclipse. I've wanted to frame it in-between tree branches, get some nice cloud coverage with a close-up (long lens) going on to get that ominous feeling (especially in a time lapse form), or get a tracked shot where the eclipse fades away to a fully white moon, though I feel like that requires a much higher dynamic range from my camera or a much more asspainy exposure control.
Regardless, happy shooting this year--I'm posting this primarily because I am risking working right in the middle of the action. I might not get anything good.
