The further away the light is, the harsher the light will be, which will bring out those imperfections. After all, bad skin and cellulite only appears when the light is uneven or sharp.
So by having the light closer to the model or if you can't move the lights cause they weren't yours, have the model get closer to it. This way you get better lighting (colors and etc), softer lights (imperfections), and you can also increase your shutter speed because it's brighter against the skin.
Pretty much solves 70% of the problems with the photos.
