>>4161970>but, but muh ultra iso copy films!!Ah, I've also scanned some self-dev'd Kodak 2238 (microphen+1), Kodak's ultra high resolution cinema copy film. According to the data sheet, this is about as high IQ as film gets. RMS 5, micro grain and over 120lp/mm at 50% contrast. Which in theory should give 50mp.
While probably equivalent to high res FF digital resolution wise, the grain adds lots of noise. Still, its within spitting distance of high res FF resolution wise.
However, this was rated at 25 iso and has less than 6 stops of DR. You'd have to expose at 12 or even 6 iso to get any sort of "normal" contrast out of this stock. This makes it basically impractical to shoot on anything other than a tripod, or a very wide fast prime. This makes impractical for most use cases, its also only b/w.
What about larger formats? I have lots of hasselblad 6x6 and 4x5 negs and slides. I will post more comparisons tomorrow. Spoilers: It's not much better.
