It's a bad move from Nikon, because that's an old design which is lagging behind current competition on E-mount.
It's a brilliant move from Tamron to license it to Nikon. They already sold as much of that lens as they could and it's been the world's best selling lens since 2018 and onwards. And now they get that extra bit of customers on Z-mount and the licensing cash from Nikon.
But man... Nikon got outmaneuvered hard this time.

It is not competitive with the 17 element G2 version on E-mount.
As soon as you ask Tamron for the license, they will sell it to you.
But they will also work on a G2 that will BTFO the lens they just licensed to you.
Right now the Nikkor's MSRP is 1200 dollars.
Whereas the Tamron G2 is 900.
It's a 300 dollar 1st party tax. And customers will notice that when they compare systems.
