Do the analogue and print like the dude mentioned, and then in the 2nd introduce photoediting and digital photography.
porfolio will help your students understand to see where they are going, and so will you.
it's all about practical work, so keep the theory to a minimum while still covering the essential academic knowledge that they can use to fit it like legos and do their own work
btw im not a teacher or an expert photographer, but it would be common sense to cover the origins of photography but base your curriculum on the modern age as we are going with the times and not going backwards.
(not to say that analogue is not being used today, nicely even, but still)
