>>3000099Film is much more forgiving. You definitely can still make mistakes, but even being off by two stops or more causes few problems. In general it's the opposite of digital in that you can overexpose without losing detail, rather than underexpose.
Have a read of this article, then go out yourself and see what you think. Get a decent grasp of what lighting conditions want what settings (by looking at the hardness of shadows for example) and play around.
