Got a spanner and opened up the De Oude Delft! I don’t know the name for this type of element, but I’ve noticed all 50mmish-equivalents have them right before the diaphragm. It’s the only element of lenses I can never figure out even though all of them have em. They’re not convex as far as I can tell, at least I think. Not shown is the other side which is a smaller concave area which I think has a bigger curvature than the front.
What are these elements for? I know the front two elements in front of it have a super long focal length. Does this just turn it sharply to the intended focal plane? This thing is super brown so I assume it’s ultra-refractive glass. Finger for scale. Literally a quarter pound element, maybe more. Wish I had a laser pointer so I could figure out the focal.
