I'd suggest using Vuescan and inverting with Negative Lab Pro, I scan as flat as I can and save it as a dng .raw file then invert in NLP.
Btw don't bother scanning your image at 7200dpi with the 8100 you won't see any improvements over a 3600dpi scan, only increased scanning times and increased file size.
