Largely because everyone who uses a Leica is using it for street, and everyone using it for street is shooting the lens at least at f/4, often f/8.There's certainly some truth in this statement. However, being able to use a lens at any aperture and get a sharp photo is what makes those special. At most lenses you have to stop down at least 1-2 stops to get acceptable sharpness. Shooting the Biogon, or Summicron at f/2 produces wonderful results, both in terms of sharpness and out of focus rendering. The latter also is also affected by the transition from the sharp area to the oof areas. If a lens isn't sharp by f/8, you could also use the bottom of a glass bottle.
