I don't see how it would cause muddiness, the worst they can do is cause flare in direct light. That said I don't see a distinct red filter "effect" in your pics, maybe a bit in the OP image.
Why do you bother with a contrast filter on digital though? You could emulate any possible filter during the monochrome conversion since you have all the colour data.
