The only thing that separates these individuals from the vast swath of talented people is marketing and sticktoitiveness. Yeah it sucks that a shitty shopped photo gets more recognition than your well crafted masterpiece but that person with the shopped image has worked behind the scenes to manipulate the system to their benefit. Either through networking, copywriting, blackhat seo or plain old emotional manipulation. In the end they stuck with it and found what works in their niche, they posted 100 times on many types of social media and/or contests until they got what they wanted. If you're good then you only have to do half the work that they did.
