>>4309376yeah the lens is a problem, it would work a lot better with a real macro. I found this old 28mm lens which has less vignetting with the tubes. I also suspect some of the banding was due to ambient light so I made it a little hood which helped I think. I am cropping just the center of each image to reduce the vignetting, so it's not as much magnification as it looks.
Battery died mid-scan but it's almost usable now. I ordered an AC cable which I think I'll need to scan any real pictures, since I'm combining 391 images and that's probably more than what a full charge can handle.
