I'm going on a vacation in August to eastern Oregon (near Hells Canyon) and wanted to get some really good outdoor shots. I doubt my phone camera will be satisfactory so I'm considering renting a DSLR. I have absolutely no experience with DSLRs or anything of the sort, and don't really have the money to go out and buy a camera and lenses. What advice would you give to a completely new wannabe nature photographer in this situation? What should I rent? What kind of lenses would be ideal? What are the ideal light settings? Not really sure where to start.
