I'd suggest you get a better camera. I'm currently taking pictures on film for my first time and have yet to get them processed, but that's because I was bored with digital photography. The body I use is the Chinon CE-4 (image attached). and I love it, with the 50mm lens and all.
But if I were you, go for an olympus SP-800UZ. This was my first digital camera and it's been with me everywhere. I've had it through rain, fire, dust, sand, salt water and even been shooting with it in front of me. Best thing ever. And the photos are awesome.
