I perceive it as an artistic Dunning–Kruger effect. photography is such a low level artistic medium that it attracts people who otherwise wouldn't have the drive to learn other mediums. why spend hours upon hours learning a craft by yourself when you can take your camera and learn your craft while taking some snaps at a party to post on instagram and get that instant social capital. this way of creating quick art that gets praised bey everyone creates the all these photographers sense of artistic merit, no different than praising a child and putting his picture on the fridge. Zdzislaw Beksinski started as a photographer and abandon it fairly early when the medium reach its limitations
