I have gone out several times with a 50 mm prime and never once had someone give me shit.
The only time I got shit was when I was shooting some b roll for a documentary about public transit. I had a sony fs100, a literal video camera, essentially a lens attached to a brick, and a big ass shotgun mic with dead cat on it, and an XLR cable wrapped up fed into the camera body. And even then the guy said "OK, the eye in the sky saw you and said you haven't been harassing anyone, so you get 15 minutes then get out of here."
Whenever I go shooting with a DSLR I have people ask me to take their photo.
The only thing I can assume is it is your attitude. You probably seem like a timid creep. I can tell by the way you write that you're judgmental and have a shitty attitude.
I'm not doing this because I think anyone is a freak show. I do this because I love my city and the people in it, however great or shitty they may be. Maybe that shows in my demeanor, and not yours.
