>>3792364I actually look into the visual representation. which means the channel displayed as a black/white or rather 8bit grey image. for example, in a visual representation of a saturation channel, the more saturated areas are displayed brighter than the less saturated. or in a red channel display, the redder areas are brighter than the less red etc..
but for scopes I use the histogram and the vector-scope. pretty standard.
when looking into the channels I start with RGB and switch trough them to compare the exposure of them. then HSL, then LAB. (pic related is for example the case when everything looks fine. bad pictures have e.g. a too bright or dark single channel, maybe clipped even, or a noisy blue channel or a clustered saturation or hue channel. often the sharpness is not consisten in rgb an l.) after a while you start to quickly see the balance of the channels to each others. this helps me when I correct to quickly know where the problem is and what to correct. rather then guessing otherwise.
