>>3571796This seemed like confirmation of the rumors from recently, but then I read the actual article everyone is getting this from:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-11-19/olympus-job-cuts-may-come-as-push-into-medical-tech-intensifiesThe only quote in the entire article is this:
>“The issue of personnel will naturally need to be addressed,” Takeuchi, who was promoted from chief financial officer in April, told reporters in Tokyo on Tuesday. “It’s a strategy to improve performance, and something that will come about in due course.”There's literally nothing else there. That's very odd for an article that's purporting to paint a dire picture of Olympus Imaging, especially since it's the CEO himself that's being cited. Something just seems really off about all this FUD recently, you'd think they'd actually quote the CEO when it comes to something as drastic as selling off an entire division but they don't quote him at all. In fact, there's no reference anywhere of where this interview took place, or a link to a transcript. That's very odd and doesn't give confidence in such a low journalistic integrity.
I have a feeling there's something else at play here and it very likely has to do with their recent stock surge that probably left many investors unhappy that their positions are now overvalued and unsaleable. This type of FUD may be an effective way to appease investors who would prefer their positions be more liquid relative to the company fundamentals, which currently aren't high enough to justify the current stock price.
