While out, I usually just smile and nod at other photographers, if by some chance we have eye contact. Most of the time there isn't any interaction at all. If somebody is taking a photo of something, I usually just wait for them to finish; maybe I'll set my tripod up behind them as I wait. If I'm first at a shot and someone arrives and decides to wait for me, I make them wait a while as I do like to take my time, especially when I've set up my tripod.
During local festivals, photo walks, and other big photographer magnets, it's just more of the same. As a Sony user though, I usually am the first to say "hi" to other Sony users, as DSLRs and Fujis are way more common.
Oh, and finally, these days, I keep a small stack of tiny pieces of paper with my ig on them in my wallet, just in case.
