I think the only thing I did differently is I used the preset "black and white from green channel" instead of blue channel, but this is very situational -- use whichever one gives you better results. I'm intrigued by your post. The first group of images has some of my favourite from the whole set (#1, #2, #3, #5, #6, #9; not very fond of #10 and #12 -- specially #12). In the other hand, from the ones you liked, I'm not a fan of #26 (seems kind of cold to me) and #30 (but I never liked this portrait very much, not sure why).
What do you think the first ones are lacking?
