Digital cameras just calculate and show actual aperture. On film you need to do that on your own. That is, if lens is variable aperture zoom. If it's constant aperture zoom, it'll only have one focal range stated, and it will stay at lowest one regardless of the focal range you are in.
This will always mean that variable aperture zoom lens will loose some low light capabilities at longer end. Mainly, it's not that important for regular photography. It is important for filming, though. Only with constant aperture zoom lenses you can execute zoom in and zoom out shots. True cine zoom lenses will be always constant aperture, and they'll also have no focus breathing, but that's separate topic.
