If you want advice on composition, start with rule of thirds (place the subject of the photo at one of the intersections of the lines and try to align other elements with the lines) and branch out from there. Rule of thirds doesn't get you "amazing" compositions but it does produce decent photos pretty much every time. There's other stuff like leading and converging lines but I'd start with rule of thirds. It trains you to think compositionally.
