Being common as muck means a healthy inventory of spares available, although there's some electronic fuckery and fl - 70's era electronics can be iffy.
Sticking within the FD lenses it might be worth digging up something like a T70. Entirely plastic, but more reliable electronically and solidly plastic.
It's actually computerised having an 8-bit processor, with about 24kB of ROM and all of 128 Bytes of RAM, rather than just being fully electronic. It runs merrily on AA batteries which can be found everywhere
They are also hideously cheap.
It does sound pretty awful when winding itself though. and it is very 80's in operation and design. It definitely wants you to think it's futuristic when using it.
In a way, it was.
