In reality any regular person standing in that scene would not be looking at that rock, they would be looking at the mountains and water. So make the scene about the mountains and water instead of using the rock as a crutch to try to artifically create depth in the scene. Especially since it's very obvious you saw the mountains first, then spent 15 minutes looking for a rock that would "balance the composition"
