This is a lie.

You can tell Nikon always tries to make the rear element as small as possible, or at the same size as sensor diagonal.

Nikon engineers are now repeating what Sony fans have preached for the past 6 years.

Mirrorless = superior lenses.

It's interesting to note Nikon constantly bragging about mount diameter, but their lenses never utilize the full diameter at all.
