I had an EOS 5 and it was just as (if not more) plasticy, although the viewfinder was excellent, and an EOS 50E which was everything I wanted, but it would refuse to take pictures with my Tamron SP mounted. Seems there isn't an EF mount film camera that doesn't compromise in at least one way or is unnecessarily bulky and ugly or expensive, since the EOS 3 is worth hundreds nowadays.
Also, screwdrive AF works more than well enough on my brother's D800.
