>>3552603>>3552610I tend to lean towards 1/250 to 1/500 depending on the light available and the subject. 1/125th works in a pinch but it's often still blurry if people are walking at a good pace. I've not had many keepers at 1/125 so I tend to try and avoid it.
The kit lens is fine, maybe in low light (like the subway/train shots) you'll struggle but in daylight it'll be fine. I'd put it in aperture priority and keep an eye on the shutter speed as you flick through apertures. Use whichever one gives you the desired shutter speed and adjust as you go. I'm normally at f5.6-f11 so doable on your lens.
