>>3182411I meant bracketing exposure, but I also wanted to ask about others' experiences in stitching sub-divided shots of a single negative together. I've seen a few guides online that suggest it.
How does one combine bracketed exposures in photoshop? I'm definitely recovering detail with unlit indoor shots out of windows and whatnot. I'll post some examples in half an hour or so.
The method that Ansel describes, and similar to that which a gracious woman at the local photo club showed me, is to leave the negatives in a floating "stack". There is not enough room to lay even 4 out flat in most trays. You then cycle the negatives bottom to top to provide agitation. It's very literally hands-on. Now that I'm regurgitating it, I'm starting to wonder if I've conflated the woman's instruction with Ansel's. I'll have to go back to check.
Either way, the secondary issue I've always had with trays scratching. The ones I've used are quite old, and it's possible that their basins have become rough and worn.
Since my negative experiences with tray development, I've moved on to the Jobo 4509n reel in the 2508 tank. Infrequently I get uneven development on the sides of the negatives, where they rest on the reel. I'd say 1/4 times. Very confusing. Someone suggested it might be agitation speed. I tend to place it on a cibachrome roller that is rather old, and possibly inconsistent in its rotation.
