How do I into a post-apocalyptic look on a budget? I've been wanting to shoot a relatively dense project that's mostly set in an abandoned suburban area and, while it's pretty easy to cherrypick a few old buildings and empty industrial locations for most scenes, I would certainly love to somehow recreate the magnitude of a decadent and lifeless urban landscape in the likes of Chernobyl, even if just through some brief scenic shots.
There are plenty of commieblocks around my neighborhood, how do I shoot them in a way that makes them look convincingly post-apocalyptic? What about the streets, how can I make them look abandoned? I know shooting at morning can be a decent way to avoid any traffic or pedestrians, but that obviously isn't enough to actually provoke a feeling of long-time negligence, is there something else I can do in that regard other than littering them with trash like 28 Days Later? Exactly what kind of color grading could substantiate all of this?
