>>3336320>Actually, if it's a proper macro lens, any length of extension tube immediately puts you past 1:1 because it was already capable of 1:1 [in a few instances more than that] before the extension tube.True, but depending on focal length that can be quite a bit of extension tubing to get to 2:1.
>And I'll add that the result will not only be too narrow in DoF for almost any use, but also look extremely shit [sorry, no lens has that kind of resolving power] plus providing enough light so it's not dark will get very tricky.Yeah, I've already done some extreme stuff like that. Here's some insect eye lenses I was able to get shots of...the resolving sharpness on the lens just can't cut it for such extreme work (Nikon 18-55 kit lens, reversed on the tubes.) This is nearly 48:1 if calculations are correct. Each image is less than half a mm wide. This also shows the ridiculous tube I was using. I had to use the remote from the full 16 feet away to help reduce vibration, but the shutter itself causes a tremendous amount of vibration. It was picking up my heartbeat on video when I was within 5 feet of it.
DOF isn't a problem since you focus stack for extreme macro anyway.
